Melissa Hekkers is a Belgian journalist, fixer, translator, copywriter and author based in Nicosia with extensive experience in writing for local press and supporting international media crews and broadcasters across the island.

Fluent in English, Greek and French, Melissa regularly writes for the Cyprus Mail Newspaper and has collaborated on productions for France 5, BBC, ITV, NRK ARD, The Times, The Telegraph and Die Zeit providing pre and post production services including research, access, coordination, translation/interpretation and field production support. As a communications specialist and translator, she has collaborates with prominent international and Cyprus based clients for which she offers her services, including the United Nations in Cyprus. Melissa has been working with Crewhouse Media since 2015.

Her creative work spans children's literature, creative non-fiction, and educational colouring books, with a consistent focus on Cyprus' cultural and natural heritage, silenced communities, migration, and environmental awareness. She has created audiovisual exhibitions to raise awareness of minorities and delivered creative writing programmes through European-funded initiatives and organisations such as UNHCR. Following her volunteering experience in Lesbos in 2020, she published her creative non-fiction work Amir's Blue Elephant, a tribute to peoples on the move, which she has championed through a TEDx talk in Nicosia.

Among her recognised works are Crocodile, which won the Cyprus State Illustration Award in 2007; Flying across Red Skies, nominated for the Cyprus State Literary Award in 2012; Pupa, which was adapted into a theatre play in 2019; and My Cyprus Mandala, a three-part colouring book series used as an educational tool in schools and workshops across the island.
